Maricor is a name that seems to have an origin from the Spanish colonization in the Philippines. It is a combination of the Spanish María (Mary) and Corazon (Heart). I often say it is María del Corazon (Mary of the Heart), but that is my interpretation.
My parents met a Japanese American woman with the name Maricor and assumed it was Japanese. The closest name in Japanese would probably be Mariko. Depending on who is saying my name and their first language, I've been called so many names, e.g. "mare-ee-kor," "ma-di-kor," "mary-kor," "mar-ee-kor," and many others. I've also had people confuse my name with "ma-di-sol," "mare-ee-car," and "ma-di-kon"😒
