Why is it pronounced Car- Um? I moved to the USA when I was 8 years old and didn't speak English. When I first arrived, my teacher couldn't say my name correctly, so he pronounced it (Car-Um). Every school year following that, my classmates would "correct" the teachers on how to pronounce my name (Car-Um) after my previous teacher's pronunciation. By the time I was in middle school, I was so used to hearing the pronunciation of Car-um that instead of changing it, I began to embrace it. However, it is pronounced very differently in Spanish!
