My name originates from Korea where I was born and raised.
My name is composed of three syllables of Hanja (Chinese characters). My family name, 지 (池 Jee), means a pond. One syllable for the first name, 은 (恩 Eun), was chosen based on my biological generation in my paternal family's lineage (indicating the seniority among family members). The last syllable, 정 (廷 Jung), means a (royal) courtyard.
When I was young, I did not like my name because its Hanja (Chinese characters) were difficult to write. One day, I was complaining and my father told me that my name was going to be "So-Hwa", which was easy to write, but of which homograph is digestion. Since then, I've never complained again!
