From Behind the Name: According to the Old Testament, Elisha was a prophet and miracle worker. He was the attendant of Elijah and succeeded him after his ascension to heaven.
From Behind the Name: From the Hebrew name אֱלִישַׁע (ʾElishaʿ), a contracted form of אֱלִישׁוּעַ (ʾElishuaʿ) meaning "my God is salvation", derived from אֵל (ʾel) meaning "God" and יָשַׁע (yashaʿ) meaning "to save, to deliver".
I had bad insomnia as a kid, so I often stayed up at night reading. For a while I challenged myself to read the Bible cover-to-cover. I remember coming across the name Elisha in 1 and 2 Kings and thinking "y'know, if I were a boy, I'd like to have this name!" Years later after I started transitioning and thinking of a new name, the memory flooded back. I'm not religious but I still liked the sound of the name. And so I'm Eli!
