My French mother named me. Since most American's can't pronounce "Catherine" the French way, my name became an amalgamation of French and English.
When I first learned to write, most of my classmates had shorter names. Catherine is nine letters. It took forever! So my dad suggested I spell it Catrine. That last for a few years until I got up to speed. :)
